Good Companion Dog Training Club was founded by Gill Roberts and Chris Fawcett-Sellers in the Spring of 1993. The Club has grown from strength to strength and we now have 8 Certificated Instructors offering 6 training classes on a Monday evening at The Jubilee Community Centre, Seabank Drive, Prestatyn and 3 training classes at Ty Ci, Station road, Bagillt on Tuesday evenings.

PRESTATYN TRAINING COURSES

approx 12 weeks 

 

Puppy Class - Under 6 months

£70 per Course

6:00-7:00pm 

 

 

THE PUPPY FOUNDATION COURSE is intended as a socialization and early learning course,

to teach basic control exercises plus good manners and will include:-

  • HANDLING as for grooming and being examined by a vet.

  • SIT on command and WAIT while the lead is put on or taken off.

  • LIE DOWN on command and SETTLE to relax and lie quietly.

  • COME when called – RECALL from distractions.

  • WALK on a loose lead.

  • PLAY with a toy and GIVE it to you.

  • SOCIALISE well with other people and dogs.

 

You will work towards your Kennel Club Good Citizens Puppy Foundation Award 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Beginners Class - Over 5 months

£70 per Course

6:00 - 7:00pm 

 

THE BEGINNERS’ COURSE is intended to help and advise owners how to train their

dogs so that the family pet is controlled, sociable, well-mannered and able to:-

  • SIT on command and WAIT to be given a further command.

  • LIE DOWN on command and STAY in position.

  • WALK TO HEEL on a loose lead in a controlled manner.

  • COME when called  - the RECALL.

  • CONTROL at DOORS and GATES, handler goes first – the dog follows.

  • LEAVE IT on command, e.g. food or other desirable  / undesirable items.

  • STAND on command for grooming / handling or being examined by a vet.

  • SOCIALISE, to mix socially with other dogs and people.

  • PLAY with a toy and GIVE it to you.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Improvers 1 Class

£65 per Course

7:15-8:15pm 

THE IMPROVERS’ COURSE is intended to consolidate and improve on exercises from previous classes. It will also focus on issues common in the adolescent dog.  You will cover exercises such as:-

  • WALKING ON A LOOSE LEAD.

  • WAIT RECALL through distractions.

  • RETRIEVE dogs toy, pick up, hold, play and give.

  • RECALL TO HEEL.

  • STAYS in positions of sit, down and stand.

  • HANDLING by other instructors for vet situation.

 

You will work towards your Kennel Club Good Citizens Bronze Award 

 

 

Improvers 2

£60 per Course

8:30 -9:30pm 

THE IMPROVERS’ COURSE is intended to further expand and develop exercises. 

You will cover exercises such as:-

  • HEEL on loose lead - working towards off lead.

  • WAIT RECALL, present and finish.

  • RETRIEVE various articles.

  • POSITIONS ON THE MOVE.

  • ASSISTED STOP THE DOG.

  • TEST A RECALL.

  • INTRODUCTION TO SCENT.

  • PROGRESSED STAYS in positions of sit, down and stand.

  • HANDLING by unknown instructors.

You will work towards your Kennel Club Good Citizens Silver Award 

 

Intermediate Class

£55 per Course

7:15-8:15pm 

THE INTERMEDIATE COURSE is intended for handlers who wish to technically

improve their training.  You will cover exercises such as:-

  • HEEL off lead.

  • WAIT RECALL at a distance.

  • RETRIEVE a dumbbell.

  • POSITIONS ON THE MOVE off lead.

  • STOP THE DOG 10 paces away.

  • TEST A RECALL 10 paces away.

  • SCENT using a cloth with owners scent.

  • SEND AWAY to dogs bed and marker.

  • DISTANCE CONTROL.

  • PROGRESSED STAYS with out of sight.

You will work towards your Kennel Club Good Citizens Gold Award 

 

Advanced Class

£50 per Course

8:30-9:30pm 

ADVANCED CLASSES are available to all who have achieved the

appropriate standard of training, and wish to do more advanced

training, with the opportunity to take the Good Companion

Dog Training Club's Platinum, Emerald and Ruby Awards. You will

cover exercises such as:-

  • WAIT RECALL with food distraction.

  • RETRIEVE judge's article over jumps. 

  • POSITIONS ON THE MOVE off lead.

  • STOP THE DOG twice over a distance.

  • TEST A RECALL with positions on the move and change of pace.

  • SCENT using a cloth with unknown scent.

  • SEND AWAY with re-driection.

  • DISTANCE CONTROL voice or gesture only.

  • PROGRESSED STAYS out of sight and distractions.

  • HEEL WORK off lead with change of pace.

BAGILLT TRAINING COURSES

approx 6 week 

 

Puppy and Beginner Class - for any dog seeking first time training 

£40 per Course

6:00-6:45pm

Improvers Class - for any dog who has attended puppy or beginner course. 

£5 per Class drop in as you need - booking essential

7:00-7:45pm

  • WAIT RECALL through distractions.

It will also prepare you for the Bronze and Silver good citizens award.

Advanced Class

£5 per Class

8:00-9:00pm 

ADVANCED CLASSES are available to all who have achieved the appropriate standard of training, and wish to do more advanced training, with the opportunity thave fun and learn a new skill. You will cover dog sports such as -

  • HOOPERS

  • SCENT

  • AGILITY

  • RALLY

  • OBEDIANCE
